Miller students immerse themselves in work of the Bard

Lines such as “The gentle wind that blow with your applause will fill my ship’s sail” have been ringing through the halls and classrooms of Miller Middle School as the eighth grade pre-AP classes have been acting out Shakespeare’s comedy, “The Tempest.”
Each year the pre-AP classes delve into a storm of their own by studying Shakespeare’s elaborate language.
“Not only do they come to a better understanding of the Bard’s style of writing, but they also develop an understanding of the political scene in Europe at the time,” teacher Grace Mueller said. “The idea of colonialism in the play is discussed and then related to what they’ve learned about U.S. colonialism history.”
