Mellie Lowman Nicholas
Mellie Lowman Nicholas, 73, of San Marcos passed away on July 8, 2013 after battling cancer for several months. She was born in Robstown on Oct. 7, 1939 to Fred and Grace Lowman. Her family moved to San Marcos in 1944. She met her loving husband, Bill Nicholas, in 1957 when he was attending Southwest Texas State Teachers College (now Texas State University). She graduated from San Marcos High School in 1958. She and Bill married in August of that same year and enjoyed a beautiful life together that was full of love and happiness. Mellie was a very kind, generous and loving wife, mother and friend. More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her family and attending games and activities in support of her children and grandchildren. Mellie was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Beta Sigma Pi. She also served on the Board of the Twice Blessed Consignment Shop.
Mellie is survived by her husband Bill; daughter Grace Nicholas of Round Rock; son Billy Nicholas, Jr. and wife Renata of San Marcos; daughter Nancy Shroyer and husband Robert of Wimberley; daughter Zanna Ward and husband Weston of Dripping Springs; grandchildren Daniel and wife Krista, Matthew, Kennedee, Brett, Courtney, Amber and Kaylee; great granddaughter Abigail Grace; sister-in-law Darlyne Lowman; nieces Lara Lowman, Helen Lowman and Cathy Northcutt; nephew Todd Lowman; and countless close friends that meant the world to her. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Ted and Albert Lowman.
Visitation will be held at Pennington Funeral Home on from 5 to 7 p.m. today. The memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 11 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in San Marcos followed by the burial at San Marcos Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mellie’s name to: The American Cancer Society, First United Methodist Church of San Marcos Foundation or Central Texas Medical Center Hospice.
