KickOff Luncheon brings Bobcats together
“Excitement” was the preeminent word that swirled within the City of San Marcos Conference Center room walls Thursday with more than 700 people in attendance for the Bobcat Club’s KickOff Luncheon.
A record crowd convened at the Embassy Suites to hear head football coach Dennis Franchione, head volleyball coach Karen Chisum and head soccer coach Kat Conner give state-of-the-team speeches. Texas State boosters were also coaxed to open their wallets by former Bobcat and Denver Broncos running back Reggie Rivers, who emceed the event.
Bobcat Club members, coaches, student-athletes, administrators and media were all on hand. Thursday’s event was a primary example of Texas State’s exponential growth and the buzz surrounding its burgeoning athletic program.
“We’ve come a long ways since Luby’s,” said Texas State Athletic Director Dr. Larry Teis in the opening address. “Remember the days where we started this luncheon at the Activities Center with about 100 people to kickoff? Then we moved to Luby’s. This is great...we are right at 700 people for this luncheon. It’s unbelievable.”
