The San Marcos High School track and field teams are off to a strong start after competing in two different meets the past two weekends — the Lehman Lobo Relays and the Trojan Relays in Beeville.

The varsity boys finished second in the Trojan Relays and fifth in the Lobo Relays, while the varsity girls placed fifth at Beeville and sixth at Lehman.

Outstanding performances at Beeville came from Vynesa Wilburn in the shot put and discus, placing second in both. Junior Nikki Sanchez placed first in the 800-meter run and senior Audrey Esparza placed third in the 1,600-meter run.

For the varsity boys, senior Cory Brown took first in the long jump and triple jump, while placing third in the 400-meter dash. Senior Nick Manrique took first in the 400 and 200, while Robert Hernandez placed first in the 300-meter hurdles and second in the 110 hurdles.
