HS Track: SM Runnin’Rattlers shine at Seguin meet
SEGUIN — The San Marcos Rattler’s High School Track team traveled to Seguin to compete in the Matador Relays last weekend.
The Rattlers varsity girls team took third place overall while the varsity boys placed seventh.
Junior Nikki Sanchez came home with three gold metals after placing first in the 800-meter run for the girls’ team with a time of two minutes, 18 seconds, finishing the 1,600-meter run in five minutes, 33 seconds. She also was a part of the first-place, 1,600 relay team along with Victoria Rinear, Madison Miles and Alexandra Reyes.
Trinity Rinear finished second in the triple jump for the girls while senior Audrey Esparza took fifth in both the 1,600- and the 3,200-meter runs.
Miles had two third-place showings in the long jump and 100-meter dash along with a fourth-place finish in the high jump.
Victoria Rinear finished fourth 100-meter hurdles and a sixth place finish on the field in the long jump, while Elle Pichardo took sixth in the 800, and Alexandra Reyes finished fifth in the 300 hurdles.
Vynessa Wilburn came through with a fifth place finish in the Discus.
For the boys, Cory Brown placed second in the long jump with a jump of 20 feet, six inches. He also pulled off a third place finish in the 400, took fourth in the triple jump and fifth in the 200. He was also part of the fourth-place 1,600 relay team along with Zach Sterling Taylor Wright and Nikolas Manrique.
Sterling took fifth in the long jump, Robert Arredondo placed fifth in the discus, Collin Anderson placed sixth in the 100-meter dash and Robert Wheeler got a sixth- place finish in the 110-meter hurdles.
The 800 relay team, which included Anderson, Sterling, Robert Hamilton and Chris Miller also finished sixth.
