HS Baseball: Rattlers roll past Roosvelt
SAN ANTONIO — San Marcos will enter District 25-5A play with momentum on its side after the Rattlers handed San Antonio-Roosevelt a 10-0 run-rule loss Friday afternoon at San Antonio’s Blossom Field.
San Marcos posted five runs n the third, four in the fifth and one more in the top of the sixth for the run-rule win. The Rattlers upped their record to 15-6-1 heading into Tuesday’s district opener at Smithson Valley.
Roosevelt fell to 5-12-1 on the season.
“We’ve played a pretty tough non-district game to get us ready for what’s going to be a tough district race, SMHS head coach Bryan Webb said. “We seemed to be playing really good ball right now, so hopefully that keeps up.”
San Marcos got home runs from freshman David Hamilton (his third of the season) and Noel Zapata (his second of the season). Hamilton also hit a triple and wound up driving in three runs, while junior Jesus Rodriguez and senior Cruz Rodriguez had two RBIs each.
Also driving in runs for the Rattlers were Zapata and senior Isaiah Vasquez.
SMHS junior right-hander Chance Laidley upped his record to 6-1 on the season, allowing three hits and no runs with five strikeouts and five walks.
Rodriguez, junior CJ Moreno, and Vasquez each had doubles in the win.
Senior Gilbert Lombardo came and pitched a an inning in relief, giving up one hit.
San Marcos has now won eight of its last 10 games will take a two-game win streak into Tuesday’s game at Smithson Valley. The Rangers were 7-7 after Friday’s round of the Boerne ISD Tournament.
Zapata enters Tuesday’s game as the Rattlers leading hitter among full-time starters, batting .433 with 25 RBIs, 10 doubles, three triples and a homer.
Sophomore Jaime Perez is the likely starter for SMHS. He owns a 3-0 record and a 2.86 ERA with 10 strikeouts.
