HS Baseball: Rattlers come up short at Antonian

SAN ANTONIO — The San Marcos Rattlers jumped out to a strong start but couldn’t finish the same way in Monday afternoon’s 10-7 loss at San Antonio-Antonian.

The Rattlers took a 7-1 lead thanks in part to freshman David Hamilton’s first-ever varsity grand slam in the top of the second. Hamilton, who finished with five RBIs, now has two home runs this season.

Noel Zapata drove in a run with a double, followed by a sacrifice fly from Hamilton to give two runs in the top of the first.

But Antonian rallied back with four runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and four more in the bottom of the sixth.

On the mound, junior right-hander Elijah Perez completed 3 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on four hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

San Marcos reliever Derek Vasquez came in and gave up two runs on five hits in 1 1/3 innings pitched, while Chance Laidley was credited with the loss after giving up three runs (one earned) on two hits in the bottom of the sixth.

San Marcos (13-6-1) is back in action Wednesday with a 7 p.m. home game against Cibolo-Steele.
