HS Baseball: Hamilton, SMHS blast New Braunfels
NEW BRAUNFELS — In many ways, San Marcos’ David Hamilton is your typical, quiet and reserved high-school freshman. Just not on the baseball field.
Throughout the 2013 season, Hamilton has developed into one of the San Marcos Rattlers’ key leaders performing more like an upperclassman than someone in their first year at the varsity level. Hamilton continued to blossom Friday night at New Braunfels, driving in four runs with a homer and a triple in the Rattlers’ 15-4 District 25-5A run-rule win over the defending district champion Unicorns.
Hamilton nailed a two-run shot over the right-field fence in the top of the second before driving in two more with a triple down the right-field line. The three-bagger gave San Marcos commanding 9-1 lead.
“David has got the tools and is a easy kid to coach. He’s got a solid approach at the plate and is solid defensively. He doesn’t try to stand out and be somebody he’s not,” SMHS head baseball coach Bryan Webb said. “We had been talking bout getting big hits with runners on he really came through. There were a bunch of more hitters that came in and really helped us out, but his home run seemed like it really pushed us over the top.”
