College Softball: Bobcats host CenturyLink Classic

From Staff Reports

The Texas State softball team will host its second home tournament in as many weeks this weekend as the Bobcats host the CenturyLink Classic at the Bobcat Softball Complex.

Joining the Bobcats in the tournament will be North Texas, Purdue and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Texas State is 2-12 so far this season and will try to snap a six-game losing streak into today’s 5 p.m. tournament opener against North Texas. The Mean Green beat Texas State 1-0 in last weekend’s Bobcat Texas Shootout.

Freshman Kellie Baker leads Texas State at the plate with a batting average of .304 and four RBIs. Baker has reached base safely in all 14 games for Texas State.

Freshman Ashley Wright has both of Texas State’s wins in the circle as she posts a 2-4 record with an ERA of 4.57, in addition to 14 strikeouts.

Texas State will follow with a 5:30 p.m. game against Purdue tonight before facing A&M-CC (12:30 p.m.) and North Texas (3 p.m.) on Saturday.
