College Football: Warhawk fury
There used to be a time when teams from power conferences (like the Big 12 and the SEC) overlooked teams from the Sun Belt Conference and treated their non-conference games as warm-ups. To them, it was simple: Go up big early, slap on cruise control and get younger athletes playing time.
That all changed last year when Louisiana-Monroe made an example out of Arkansas. Despite entering the game as a heavy underdog against the No. 8 team in the nation, the Warhawks posted a 34-31 overtime win as Kolton Browning threw for 412 yards and three touchdowns.
ULM continued their brutal 2012 schedule when they traveled to Auburn and hosted Baylor. Even though the Warhawks lost both of those games by a combined eight points, they put the nation on notice that the Sun Belt wasn’t going to be a pushover any longer.
