Bobcat softball falls to BU in thriller
It was the game that just didn’t want to end. It took a pair of two-run home runs in extra innings for the No. 16 Baylor Bears to finally put away the Texas State Bobcats 7-3 after 10 innings Tuesday night at Bobcat Field.
A two-out RBI by Bobcat junior Coralee Ramirez tied the game up at 1-all in the bottom of the sixth inning, but things didn’t slow down from there. It was still tied in the top of the ninth when Baylor junior Holly Holl swatted a two-run home run over the left centerfield fence.
Texas State’s hopes dwindled, but didn’t disappear. The Bobcats fought back in the bottom of the ninth, putting runners on second and third with one out. A hard-hit ball to shortstop was thrown high and wide of first base, bouncing into the stands and allowing both runs to knot the game at 3-all.
That newly found moment didn’t last long, as Baylor sophomore shortstop Jordan Strickland made up for her error by blasting BU’s second two-run shot, giving the Bears a 5-3 lead in the top of the tenth. That was enough to keep Texas State from another comeback, but Baylor added on two insurance runs anyway.
