Art UnHitched returns on Saturday

Abstract art attracted a crowd at an earlier Art UnHitched market.

After a winter hiatus, the “Art UnHitched” Art Market is back the second Saturday of each month beginning this Saturday, March 9.
A project of the San Marcos Arts Commission, the popular open-air art market will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Hitch: A Mobile Eatery” at 312 E. Hopkins Street.
The monthly markets are part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to spotlight the San Marcos arts scene and engage local artists with the community.
The event has been expanded to include 30 booths and will again feature artists of all types including paintings, sculpture, jewelry, live music, performance art and culinary arts. Booth space is provided free to participating artists and the market is free to the public as well.
“The Art UnHitched Art Market is one of the ways that we can showcase the art and artists of San Marcos while at the same time we’re helping local artists achieve greater success by providing a venue for them to market their art at no cost,” Kelvon Hansen, chair of the San Marcos Arts Commission, said.

“Art Unhitched is a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon —browsing artist booths, listening to live music and grabbing lunch from one of the food trailers,” Charlotte Wattigny, event coordinator and San Marcos Arts Commission member, said.
If musicians or artists would like to perform music, poetry, or dance, or would like additional information, contact Jennifer Shaw, special events coordinator, at 393-8400 or Charlotte Wattigny at 393-5932.
