College Track and Field: Bobcat vaulter Cunningham shines at Texas Invitational
Texas State topped three events at the Texas Invitational in Austin Saturday. The women won two running events while the men took home the pole vault.
Texas States most impressive performance of the day came from senior stalwart Logan Cunningham. He won the pole vault with his highest jump of the season so far, a vault of 5.37 meters (17-7.25). The jump is tops in the Western Athletic Conference and puts him 15th in the nation.
Cunningham wasnt the only Bobcat to make a WAC top performance. Freshman Dasha Tsema claimed third at the Texas Invitational with a new WAC-leading throw in the womens discus. Her third place throw of 50 meters flat (164) was the latest throw in the freshmans strong first collegiate season.
Chantesean White continued to make a good showing in the 400-meter hurdles with a first place time of 58.53 while Jennie Thomas took fourth in the event.
Sandra Venegas, meanwhile, dominated the 3,000-meter run with a first place time of 9:51.50, nearly a full seven seconds in front of the pack.
The Bobcats also did well in the 4x100-meter relay, as the men finished in second place. Timothy Young, Raymond Hatton, Reggie Reed and William Murray combined for a time of just 40.62.
Texas State will now gear up for the teams next meet, the LSU Alumni Gold in Baton Rouge, La. this weekend.
