San Marcos Arts Commission to hold Arts Advocacy Reception Oct. 17
The San Marcos Arts Commission will host the second annual San Marcos Arts Advocacy Reception on Thursday, Oct. 17 at the San Marcos Activity Center from 5:30 to 7 p.m. to celebrate National Arts and Humanities Month.
The reception is open to the public.
Everyone recognizes the creative and cultural value of the arts and humanities, according to Robert L. Lynch, president and CEO of Americans for the Arts and national coordinator of Arts and Humanities month. National Arts and Humanities Month offers us a chance to celebrate the often overlooked economic, educational, and civic engagement values that the arts impart in our daily lives.
Appointed by the San Marcos City Council, the Arts Commission recently established a contribution to the arts recognition program and will honor three recipients at the reception. The recognition program seeks to highlight and recognize the important contributions of artists and art organizations to the quality of life and economic vitality of the community.
The San Marcos Arts Commission is excited once again to honor and recognize the selected individuals and groups for our annual art recognition awards. The recipients have significantly contributed to the art scene and cultural life of San Marcos for many years and will have a lasting impact on the future of San Marcos. Chair of the San Marcos Arts Commission Kelvon Hansen said.
The group also sponsors Art UnHitched on the second Saturday of each month behind The Hitch. The Art UnHitched art market features local artists along with live music, poetry, and prose.
On Nov. 12, the group will hold its final art education workshop of the year titled Marketing the Arts. Those interested in setting up a booth or performing at Art UnHitched or attending the workshop, contact Jennifer Mach at (512) 393-8400 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
