Man who saved two lives on San Marcos River named Coast Guardsman of the Year

A local act of heroism is gaining nationwide attention. In fact, Petty Officer 3rd Class Samuel Peikert with the U.S. Coast Guard will be named the United Service Organizations Coast Guardsman of the Year for saving two lives on the San Marcos River while off duty in Luling.
Last summer, a father and a son went over a dam on the river in Luling, crashing onto concrete before slipping into the river.
