Picnic planning 101
By CANDICE BRUSUELAS
Thankfully for me, I have an adventurous other half. My boyfriend Steven is always pushing me to try new things and lately, he's been all about doing a picnic. Last night we went on our third picnic together at the picnic table on the Devil's Backbone.
Needless to say, the views were gorgeous, but our turkey sandwiches were lacking. So, I got right to work on planning the cuisine for our next outing.
One thing to consider is the nature of the picnic. Where are you going and how are you getting there? Is it possible to have a picnic tubing down the river? It's definitely possible, though surely challenging.
If you're biking somewhere, you might not be able to lug around a cooler like we did, and you might need something to keep the food cool.
For this I suggest the cooler bags from H-E-B or Walmart. They're spacious, but foldable, so you can easily stuff it in a backpack. We also used reusable shopping bags for our dry goods, but they're not exactly compact. If you're going in a car, like we did, it's not as much of a problem. If you're hiking for two hours in Purgatory Creek, you might want to pack a little lighter.
