July 13 declared Barbershop Music Appreciation Day in Texas

On Saturday, July 12, the San Marcos­ based women’s chorus A Cappella Unlimited, accompanied by guest quartets Soundwise and Head Over Heels, performed at the magnificent State Capitol Rotunda in celebration of Barbershop Music Appreciation Day.
A Cappella Unlimited is the San Marcos chapter of an organization called Sweet Adelines International, a worldwide singing organization founded by Edna Mae Anderson on July 13, 1945, for the preservation and enjoyment of four-­part a cappella harmony in the barbershop style. Since its founding in 1945, Sweet Adelines International has grown to span five continents, with more than 500 choruses and 1200 quartets worldwide.
