Square Up. Circle left. Pass thru. Do sa do. These are all terms one might hear at the Wheel- N- Deals Square Dance Club.
The club holds classes on Thursdays from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Dunbar Recreation Center. It has been running for the past 43 years in San Marcos, and Chet Miles has been the club caller for the past 21 years.
“All you need to know is your right from left,” said Don Rankin, president of the club. “And how to walk, and how to listen of course.”
Rankin said this club is one of the highlights of his week, where line dances, two-steps, waltzes, and so much more is taught. He also said scientific studies have proven square dancing helps improve balance and it is a great form of physical exercise.
“It’s a social event,” said Rankin. “You meet people that are energetic and you get decent exercise. You don’t have to be perfect to get a lot out of it.”
