Prior to this season, Texas State never took a trip to the West Coast under head coach Ty Harrington.
Its not like the Bobcats had reason to venture farther than New Mexico (where they went in 2007). Texas State had and still has plenty of in-state schools from which to pick a handful of non-conference tilts and when it was in the Southland Conference, all of its league games were regionalized.
Once the Bobcats joined the Western Athletic Conference, their non-conference scheduling took a hit. Texas State had to get used to time changes and learn how western teams played ball.
We had to really know what we were getting ourselves into (by playing out there), Bobcat senior Andrew Stumph said. They play a little different style of ball there as compared to down here. In the past, we just used to have slugfests and theyre just real scrappy and try to get one run an inning.
