Texas State University was set to be the first university in Texas to host a presidential debate, but on Wednesday the two candidates for president announced they’re going rogue.

Last week's storm knocked out power to much of San Marcos. SMTX Utilities experienced 136 outages impacting 12,000 customers with 50 additional reports of downed lines that did not impact power. Neighboring utility providers including New Braunfels Utilities and city of Seguin Utilities along with three contractors helped SMTX Utilities with restoration and clean-up efforts. Total restoration of outages due to last Thursday’s storm was accomplished on Saturday night just before 10 p.m.
It appears inflation and skyrocketing prices may be having an impact on local spending habits as there has been a decrease in sales tax allocations for San Marcos for this period and year to date. Several other cities across Hays have seen a similar decrease in spending compared to 2023 while others are still showing growth.

The San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter is in desperate need of help. In a post on the shelter’s instagram page from May 14, it said that 111 animals entered the shelter in the week prior. Seven dogs will be humanely euthanized on Tuesday, May 21, if they are not put in foster, adopted or flagged by a rescue organization.
DEAR ABBY: Today I ironed and folded my late husband’s lucky fishing shirt and placed it into a box going to Goodwill. Continuing with the task, I matched up 14 pairs of my good merino wool socks, most of which had been gifts from him in times that were not so flush. After three months, I have finally moved the box containing his ashes from the kitchen table.
