What started as just a concept with a few ladies who were commuting to Houston each week to sing with a championship ladies chorus in 2009 has grown into a fast growing and highly regarded Sweet Adelines International (SAI) chorus based in San Marcos.
With only 15 members when they were chartered in 2011, A Cappella Unlimited has grown and continues to gain attention with their creative approach to a cappella choral singing.
Committed to producing quality music and becoming better singers, in just their second regional SAI competition last March, the group was awarded Most Improved Chorus, First Place, Small Chorus and placed Fifth in competition with some 23 choruses.
While a womens barbershop harmony chorus at heart, led by seasoned and adventurous music educators and experienced barbershop harmony directors Katy Daneand Grant Goulding, the chorus explores other areas of a cappella music including contemporary and even beat box.
A Cappella Unlimited is on a journey and would love to welcome women who like to sing, and can, to join them. They rehearse every Monday night in Room 214 of the Music Building on the campus of Texas State University.
The ensemble will be featured during the free United We Sing concert on Sunday at 3 p.m., Evans Auditorium, Texas State University, in a musical salute to the USA and tribute to the victims and the heroes of 9/11 and our men and women in the military.
United We Sing is a joint presentation of the Heart of Texas Chorus and the Texas State University College of Fine Arts and Communication.
