NEW BRAUNFELS — Maturity came in all forms Friday night for San Marcos.
To start, the Rattlers finally learned what it took to win on the road in a tough district such as 25-5A.
Coming into the tilt with New Braunfels-Canyon, San Marcos was 0-2 away from Rattler Field in district play after suffering tough losses to Converse-Judson and Smithson Valley.
Through six innings, the Rattlers and Cougars traded runs and momentum-saving outs. By the end of the seventh, San Marcos got the upper hand — and a 5-3 victory — thanks to a pair of run-scoring hits by senior outfielder Cruz Rodriguez and junior outfielder Alex Sowell.
“We showed signs of a ball club maturing tonight, withstanding some adversity and handling some things that happened,” Rattler head coach Bryan Webb said. “It’s a sign that your ball club is starting to come together at the right time.”
