Thomas Paul Kraak
Thomas Paul Kraak, born Jan. 31, 1949, in Houston, passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, from cancer at the home of his dear friend Sarah Baxter.
Tom worked in the excavation business started by his father John P. Kraak. He was involved, instrumental in the excavation of the foundations of many skyscrapers in downtown Houston, Tranquility Park and Buffalo Bayou.
Tom moved to San Marcos in 2005. He attended San Marcos Baptist Academy in San Marcos. He served in Vietnam during the Vietnam War in the Seabees branch of the Navy.
Tom grew up in the excavating and trucking business and enjoyed the camaraderie of others that shared his love of trucks. He enjoyed restoring and showing his vintage trucks. Tom was a member of the Yellow Rose chapter of the American Truck Historical Society. Survivors include his son Jonathan Gardner Kraak of San Marcos; ex-wife Karen Kraak of Pasadena,; brothers Ross David Kraak, Jay Paton Kraak, both of Houston; sisters Jonnie Lynn McClellan, San Marcos, and Tammie Justine Sipes and husband Sidney, Plano; nephews John McClellan, San Marcos; Thomas Sipes, Plano; and niece Rebecca Sipes, Plano.
Viewing will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28 at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Road, Conroe. Memorial Service starts at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston. In lieu of flowers, make donations to the American Cancer Society P.O.
