Outdoors: Now is perfect time for camping
As springtime is rushing toward us, forcing the cold winter to abdicate his throne, my thoughts are on hungry bass, spring gobbler hunting season and camping.
Spring is the perfect season for camping. Not too hot. Not too cold. And nature is bursting forth in her full glory.
As soon as the nights get a little warmer I plan to load my back country camping gear into the kayak and paddle up the Guadalupe above Canyon Lake. I’ve spent many a March night camped on gravel bars on the Guadalupe fishing for white bass.
Hopefully, warmer nights are on the way. Several mornings, sleeping in the open, I have awakened in a sleeping bag covered with frost. That can make your toes real cold. If you’re not quite up to the adventure of primitive camping on a river gravel bar let me suggest some great camping opportunities, most of them under a two hour drive.
