Naming a race takes a lot of thought and consideration
One of the first things race organizers have to do when they want to plan a race is to come up with a name for the race.
They usually have a reason for raising the money, whether it is for scholarships, to help a worthy cause, or help a local celebration or event. The key is to set the race apart enough so runners will look at the name more than a passing glance and look into it a little more.
There is always the big city name races such as the Austin Marathon, Dallas Marathon, Houston Marathon and then the big sponsor’s name attached to it. Even smaller cities can have a race named after the city such as the Marfa Lights Festival.
