A message from mosquitoes to summer runners
Summer is officially here as of last Friday and that means hot temperatures, days spent in the San Marcos River, barbecues, and those dreaded mosquitoes that seem to have their busiest days in the summer.
I never thought much about mosquitoes outside of them being a pest when you are outside.
At the Camp Ben McCulloch 5K race last Saturday, Joel Davis came up to me and asked if I had any resource between runners, mosquitoes and the West Nile disease. I had never thought about this relationship much but it did get me to thinking about the problem.
It just so happened that in this month's Reader's Digest there was an article by a mosquito, edited by Lauren Gelman. After reading the little bugger’s comments it came to my attention that runners are probably more prone for mosquito bites than your average citizen.
