HS Softball: SMHS pasts two more wins at Classic
The San Marcos Lady Rattlers advanced in Gold Bracket play Friday at the SMHS Classic, handing Houston-St. Pius a 5-2 loss at the Gary Softball Complex.
San Marcos (14-8-1, 1-1 25-5A) advanced to the Gold Bracket after scoring an 8-2 win over Fort Bend Bush Thursday.
Freshman pitcher Victoria Vasquez picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Rattlers against St. Pius, allowing five hits and two runs over six innings with six strikeouts.
Stephanie Marmolejo paced the SMHS offense, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Mariah Delgado posted two hits with an RBI.
Jessica Flores also drove in a run.
Danielle Ricks led the Lady Rattlers against Fort Bend-Bush with a 2-RBI triple, while Marmolejo and Vasquez also drove in runs.
Vasquez also scored the win in the circle, giving up two runs on three hits with five strikeouts and no walks.
San Marcos was scheduled to play St. Gertrudis Academy Saturday.

The Lady Rattlers return to District 25-5A play Tuesday night with a 7 p.m. home game against Converse-Judson.
