HS Basketball: Hays girls see season end in bi-district loss
FISCHER — Hays felt it was playing its best basketball of the season when it entered the bi-district round of the Class 4A playoffs. As it turns out, the Lady Rebels found another team playing just a little bit better.
San Antonio-Brackenridge, ranked 11th in the state by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, ended Hays’ season Tuesday night. The Lady Rebels suffered through three single-digit quarters and fell 61-35 to the Lady Eagles.
Hays (24-10) didn’t get off to a good start, as it only scored five points in the first quarter. Brackenridge (31-5) poured in 18 and left the Lady Rebels scrambling.
A solid defensive effort in the second quarter helped Hays fight back to within single digits. The Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Eagles, 18-13, in the frame to only trail 31-23 at halftime.
From that moment on, nothing went Hays’ way. Brackenridge opened up a 41-28 lead after three quarters and blew it open with a 20-point fourth quarter.
Senior guard Lindsey McCurdy led the Lady Rebels with 10 points. Juniors Jill Borreson and Jordyne Dugger each chipped in eight for Hays.
