HS Baseball: SMHS ready to begin 25-5A play
The San Marcos High School baseball team has played 22 games this season. And while SMHS head coach Bryan Webb has been delighted with the way his Rattlers have fared so far, compiling a 15-6-1 record. But for him and the rest of the quad, tonight is the beginning of a completely “new” season as the Snakes open District 25-5A play at Smithson Valley.
“We designed a tough schedule against some very good programs, and to be where we are at right now is nice,” Webb said. “But this scheduled was designed to get us ready for district play, and I think it’s served it’s purpose well.”
San Marcos is riding a two-game win streak into tonight’s game and has won seven of its last nine. The Rattlers posted four run-rule wins during their non-district slate, the most recent being Friday’s 10-0 win at San Antonio-Roosevelt.
San Marcos owns the best record of all six 25-5A teams headed and leads the league with a team batting average of .376 with 179 runs. By comparison, Smithson Valley is hitting .315 as a team with 73 runs.
