College Volleyball: SM's McCoog joins Bobcats
Texas State added another former San Marcos Rattler to its roster.
A few years ago, Bobcat head coach Karen Chisum offered former Rattler setter Ali Gonzales a walk-on spot with the program. Now, Chisum extended the offer to San Marcos defensive specialist Madison McCoog.
“Madison loves to play and has always wanted to be a Bobcat,” Chisum said in a press release. “We’ve known her since her younger days as a camper and a local Rattler. She comes from a great family, and we are excited to have another San Marcos player involved in our program.”
As a senior last season, McCoog was captain of San Marcos’ team. McCoog — who was named to the Academic All-District Team as a sophomore, junior and senior — stood out during a game against Del Valle, when she recorded a .400 hitting percentage to go along with 12 kills and 11 digs.
Other players to sign with Texas State on the first day of the spring signing period were Shelby Vasconcellos Mattocks, Cori Schrier, Keeley Davis, Albany Dawson, Amanda Watkins and Kaylen Deloney. In addition to those seven players, three were signed during the early signing period: Jocelyn Hillyer, Kelsey Weynand and Alexandra Hubicsak.
This year will be the Bobcats’ first as members of the Sun Belt Conference.
Last year, Texas State played in the Western Athletic Conference and in 2011, was a member of the Southland Conference.
