New birds are arriving in our area as birds migrate south in search of food and a more temperate climate. Some, like chipping sparrows, will hang around all winter. Others will just pass through, heading on south.
All will expend a lot of energy moving from one locale to another, south in the winter and then north come spring. That energy will come from body fat.
