Texas State head coach Ty Harrington looked at wits’ end Tuesday night.
Harrington, who develops the Bobcats’ defensive game plan and is the team’s defensive instructor, watched his team commit six errors in a 5-4 loss to Rice. Perhaps the biggest kick to Texas State’s ribs was a throwing error by junior pitcher Donnie Hart on a routine sacrifice bunt that gave the Owls just enough space to hold on for a win.
That meltdown came two days after the Bobcats kicked the ball around five times in a 10-2 setback at UT Arlington, which Harrington called, “…one of the worst games in the history of the program.” Less than 24 hours earlier, Texas State senior outfielder Kevin Sah muffed three plays all by himself in a 6-5 loss to the Mavericks.
“I’m frustrated for them,” Harrington said. “I’m the guy that’s in charge of the defense and apparently I haven’t been able to get through to them yet.”
