ARLINGTON — Slowly, but ever-so surely, Texas State turned its season around.
It started back on April 21 in San Jose, when the Bobcats won their only game in school history on the West Coast. Until then, Texas State was 0-10 in the Pacific Time Zone; but junior first baseman Austin O’Neal (2 for 5 with 3 RBI) and senior third baseman Nick Smelser (3 for 5 with 2 RBI) came alive to lead Ty Harrington’s team to a 11-5 win over San Jose State.
Since then, the Bobcats reeled off seven wins in their last nine games and improved to .500 for the first time since Feb. 16. Texas State won its last three non-conference games (Houston Baptist, Prairie View A&M and Texas A&M) and took series from fellow Western Athletic Conference teams CSU Bakersfield and Texas-San Antonio.
