Grande presents scholarship to SMHS seniors
From Staff Reports
Grande Communications, the San Marcos-based broadband communications company that offers Internet, TV and phone services, recently presented scholarship awards to San Marcos High School seniors Samuel (Alex) Sowell and Alexis Mueller.
The Grande Employee Memorial Scholarship Fund (GEMS) was established to honor deceased employees by awarding college scholarships to selected high school seniors in two markets where Grande provides services each year on a rotating basis. To date, scholarships have been presented in Austin, Corpus Christi, San Antonio, San Marcos, Midland/Odessa, Dallas and Waco.
As a memorial to fellow Grande employees that have passed away, Grande's employee philanthropy initiative, the Grande Cares Club, decided in 2002 to award a scholarship in their memory. The first award was made in May 2003 to a San Marcos High School student.
