Wayne Derrick documentary to screen at Texas State tomorrow
The Kyle Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association will be sponsoring a unique opportunity to showcase law enforcement officers.
The Alumni will host a screening of the law enforcement documentary, “Heroes Behind the Badge,” tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Texas State University in Evans Auditorium.
The director of the documentary, Wayne Derrick, is the grandson of former Texas State University President Dr. Leland Derrick, who was also an English professor of former President Lyndon B. Johnson.
Texas State University has a building named after Dr. Derrick (Derrick Hall).
The executive producer of the film, William Erfurth, will be at the screening as well.
Erfurth was inspired to produce the film when, shortly after his retirement from the Miami-Dade Police Department, two of his colleagues were gunned down in broad daylight while serving a felony warrant.
The Alumni Association will also be focusing attention on the 15 fallen officers in 2012 with a Memorial service prior to the film.
Fifty percent of the proceeds go to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
Tickets can be purchased at the Kyle Police Department and online at outhousetickets.com.
