Tennis: Texas State tennis club set for USTA Nationals
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Texas State’s club tennis team has been invited to travel to Surprise, Arizona next weekend for the United States Tennis Association’s Tennis On Campus National Championship.
The USTA invites close to the top 10 percent of club teams to the Nationals each year. Of over 600 colleges that compete across the country, only 64 co-ed, intramural and club teams get invited to participate.
This is the fifth consecutive year the Bobcats’ club team has made the Nationals, which will be held April 11-13.
“Not only are we pumped for competing,” said team captain Melissa Starck, “but also for some of us this is the only time we get to see the friends we have made from other schools by attending Nationals for the past five years.”
This is the 13th year for the USTA Tennis On Campus program.
“The Tennis On Campus National Championship is the most exciting and successful recreational college tennis event in the country,” said Glenn Arrington, National Manager, USTA Tennis On Campus. “The championship offers students a well-rounded experience of competition and fun in a social atmosphere—setting it apart from varsity programs. Having the opportunity to compete at Nationals is a memorable milestone in our players’ college experience.”
The Nationals field also indulges defending champion University of California-Berkely and five-time national champion Texas A&M.
