Keeping the romance alive - third place winners
A letter to the editor to tell what keeps romance alive:
I met Dawn at Killeen High
My heart beat so fast I thought I would die
She told me later hers did the same
So, we started out on this love game
Two years in high school we dated some
Waiting for graduation to come
We married in ‘43 when she was sixteen
But I was smarter and older I was seventeen
I gave the preacher my last two dollars
Not knowing what in the world would follow
Our parents said it would not last
They had seen too many try in the past
We had no money or food to eat
Not even a place to sleep
The clothes on our backs was all we had
But we had each other how could that be bad
Saying I love you and I care
Is not the same as two hearts that share
Truley truley love is two hearts bonded tight
And nothing can separate it try if you might
Roses are great and they smell good
But in a few days nothing is left but wood
Romantic movies have been the trend
But the last thing you see on the screen is the end
Romantic hideaways are great to be alone
But you seem to remember the long quiet ride home
Candy is good and it works fine
Until you notice it has gone to your waist line
I wake up my wife each morning at eight
I give her a kiss and hope I am not late
We say I love you again and squeeze each others’ hand
To show we still respect that little gold band
Take it from two who know
Truley true love can only grow
She is 86 and I am 87
We will be together again in heaven
Feb. 14, 2013 is our wedding day
70 years and we are still here to stay
If you want to see what true love can be
You should take a look at her and me
