HS Softball: Lady Rattlers run-rule Wagner
SAN ANTONIO — It was quite a night for San Marcos’ Stephanie Marmolejo Friday, as the junior shortstop hit two home runs in the Lady Rattlers’ 17-3, run-rule win at San Antonio-Wagner.
Marmolejo homered in the second and fourth innings, during in four runs while going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Wagner took an early lead with a run in the bottom of the first, but San Marcos (16-10-1, 3-1 25-5A) responded with four runs in the second, 10 in the third and three more in the fourth.
The Lady Rattlers never surrendered the lead after the second , scoring four runs on an error, a two-run home run by Marmolejo, and an RBI single from Madie Bumgardner in the third.
SMHS pounded Wagner pitching, as six hitters combined for 10 hits, 11 RBIs and 14 runs scored.
Freshman outfielder Joshlyn Gonzales had a good night at the plate as well, driving in three runs while going 2-for-4, while sophomore infielder Ellie Hernandez was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Bumgardner also drove in two runs for the Lady Rattlers.
Freshman pitcher Victoria Vasquez picked up the win, allowing three runs off three hits though five innings. She struck out three hitters and walked two to improve to 10-4 on the season.
San Marcos moved into sole possession of second place in District 25-5A with the win and will have a chance to move into a first-place tie when the team hosts first-place New Braunfels-Canyon Tuesday night. The Lady Cougars are coming off a 12-2 win over Converse-Judson.
