College Volleyball: Tough slate for Bobcats
Texas State head coach Karen Chisum recently announced her team’s 2013 schedule, which features home tilts with Baylor and Texas Tech.
“I’m pleased with our 2013 schedule,” Chisum said. “We will have good exposure for our team with a variety of conference opponents. We’re also looking forward to having our home Delta Zeta Texas State Classis and hosting four teams the first weekend of the year.”
Texas State hosts its tournament Aug. 30-31 starting at 9:30 a.m. that Friday and 10 a.m. that Saturday.
Five matches will be played the first day with Texas State taking on Lamar at 11:30 a.m. and SMU at 6:30 p.m. Four matches will take place that Saturday with the Bobcats facing Quinnipiac and Houston at noon and 6:30 p.m.
Texas State will then face Sam Houston State on the road Tuesday, Sep. 3 before traveling to North Texas the next weekend for matches against Northwestern State, Utah, Prairie View A&M and North Texas at the North Texas Invitational.
Then the Bobcats return home to Strahan Coliseum to host Baylor on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Just a week later, Texas State welcomes Texas Tech to Strahan Coliseum with a trip to Tulsa’s Golden Hurricane Invitational sandwiched in between.
“I believe the Baylor and Texas Tech matches at home will be very exciting and hopefully draw big crowds to support us against Big 12 opponents,” Chisum said.
From there, Texas State continues its IH-35 rivalry against UTSA Friday, Sep. 20.
A week later, the Bobcats will play their first ever Sun Belt Conference match in a home matchup against Louisiana-Lafayette, the first of 18 SBC matches. Texas State and the rest of its conference opponents hope to gain berth in the Sun Belt Tournament, hosted by Troy from Nov. 21-24 in Troy, Ala.
