College Softball: Aggies thrash Texas State
An early deficit proved too much for Texas State to handle Tuesday night in a game against No. 13 Texas A&M.
By the end of the first inning, the Bobcats fell behind 5-0. Four innings later, the game ended with the score 14-0 in favor of the Aggies.
Not much went right out of the gate for Texas State (11-31) as Texas A&M scored three runs on illegal pitches by freshman Ashley Wright. Then Wright gave up two more runs on a triple by Cali Lanphear.
Extra-base hits continued to be the story of the game, as Lanphear crushed a three-run home run in the third inning. An inning later, the Aggies slammed two more four-baggers to earn the run-rule victory.
The Bobcats only recorded two hits. Senior second baseman Anna Hernandez slapped a single in the second, while junior pinch-hitter Timishia North tripled to left-center field in the fifth.
Next up for Texas State is a home series against New Mexico State, a team that is leading the Western Athletic Conference. It all starts with a Friday doubleheader.
