City to celebrate Rio Vista Terrace improvements
The city of San Marcos will hold an ice cream social on Thursday at the San Marcos Nature Center, 430 Riverside Drive, at 6 p.m. to celebrate the completion of the Rio Vista Terrace Improvements Project.
City officials, engineers and staff from the Engineering/Capital Improvements Department will be on hand to serve up cold treats, visit with the neighbors and thank them for their patience and support during the three-year project.
“This project was a major undertaking for all involved — especially the residents,” said Laurie Moyer, director of the San Marcos Engineering/Capital Improvements Department. “Their support was a key factor in the success of the project.”
The neighborhood rehabilitation project included the relocation of residential water service lines and meters, new sewer service lines, storm water culvert installation and street reconstruction. The project will improve drainage in flood-prone areas of the neighborhood and is the first significant overhaul of the area’s roads, curbs and sidewalks since the 1940s.
Two separate construction projects near the neighborhood rehabilitation — reconstruction of Riverside Drive from Cheatham Street to the IH-35 frontage road and an outfall tie-in to the storm-water drainage pipe in Cheatham Street — will be completed this fall. They are both expected to begin in October and take six to eight weeks.
All Rio Vista neighbors and interested citizens are invited to attend the Ice Cream Social event. For more information please call the Engineering/Capital Improvements Department at (512) 393-8130 or email to CIP@sanmarcostx.gov.
