Back to where it all began
Greetings once again, San Marcos.
This is Joseph Garcia, signing on as the newest member of the San Marcos Daily Record staff as a sports writer.
A native Texan from Austin, by way of Corpus Christi, I am a 2009 graduate of Texas State’s School of Journalism and bring more than five years of journalism experience to the Daily Record.
I began my career as a sports reporter and columnist for Texas State’s University Star. Soon after Randy Stevens, now the Managing Editor here, gave me a shot to freelance covering high school sports for the Record, while still enrolled in college.
Upon graduation, I worked for the Dallas Cowboys as a writing intern for dallascowboys.com where I cut my teeth as a professional journalist and rubbed elbows with the likes of Jerry Jones, Tony Romo and DeMarcus Ware.
Following a full season with the ‘Boys, I headed west where I covered every beat from crime to school board for The Highlander in Marble Falls as a news reporter.
Most recently I completed a copy editing internship with Bleacher Report, and worked as Sports Editor for the Liberty Hill Independent.
Married for a year and a half, I currently reside in Austin with my wife, Miriam, who also graduated from Texas State.
Now, I return to the city dear to me and where my life changed forever: San Marcos.
