Adell Fox Hurst

Adell Fox Hurst was born Aug. 12, 1933 in Buffalo Springs, the daughter of Earl and Opal Fox. Adell attended elementary school in Buffalo Springs and Midway.
After moving to the Texas Panhandle in 1941, Adell graduated from Lelia Lake High School at the age of 15. Her dream of entering the nursing school at Midwestern University in Wichita Falls was stopped short by her father, who considered her too young to leave home.
When told she would, instead enroll in Clarendon College, seven miles from the Fox family farm, tears did not change her father's mind; he simply said “Go on up to Clarendon and learn things a girl can make a living at, such as bookkeeping, shorthand and typing.” That long year ended, and finally she was able to pursue her dream: she enrolled in Midwestern University and entered the nursing program at General Hospital. This dream was happily interrupted when a certain handsome airman entered Adell's life.
Only months after meeting, Adell and Coyett married on Jan. 6, 1951. Together, they crisscrossed the country (and the globe) for 20 years, living on Air Force bases from Texas to Goosebay, Labrador, to South Carolina, to Mississippi, to Massachusetts, before finally returning to their beloved Texas in 1970. Along the way, their family steadily grew to include six loving children. In San Marcos, Coyett and Adell raised their family, and Adell began a career with Family Planning. After retiring in 1995, Coyett and Adell relocated to scenic Lake LBJ where they spent nine lazy, happy, sun-soaked years.
To be closer to their children, the couple moved to Kyle in 2003. Not one to sit still for very long, Adell became involved in numerous volunteer activities, including Meals on Wheels, CTMC Hospice Care and Seton Hospital. In addition, Adell worked to help establish the Kyle Area Senior Zone, along with the city of Kyle Library.
Coyett and Adell enjoyed nearly 58 years of a very blessed marriage until his death in 2008. Adell Fox Hurst died on Feb. 20, 2013 at the age of 79.
Adell is preceded in death by her beloved husband Coyett, her parents Earl and Opal Fox, her brother Lee Fox and sister Janell Taylor. Blessed are those who die in the name of the Lord.
Adell is survived by her sons Steve and his wife Lisa; Greg and his wife Deb; Jeff and Mark, and by daughters Vicki and Abby. Adell and Coyett were blessed with grandchildren and (great-grandchildren): Amy and her husband Scott (Hunter and Jake); Brandi and husband John (Mena and Heidi); Kasey and her husband Larsen (Garett, Haylee, Carsten, Lacey); CJ and his wife Meme (Samma); Marissa; Michael; Ashley and her husband Steven and Scotty.
Adell's family would like to thank the staff of CTMC Hospice Care for their special, loving and tender care of our beloved mom, grandmother and great-grandmother. Because of each team member's expert skill, Adell's passing was peaceful, comfortable, respectful, dignified and pain-free. Dr. Moore, Ann, Sylvia, Linda, Ed, Cindy, Annette, Sarah, Margarita, Abel, Michael, Enoch, Velinda, Lisa and all the people behind the scenes that work so hard to support the staff, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. To all the hundreds of community members from KASZ, United Methodist Church, First Lutheran Church and other friends; the outpouring of food, cards and prayers is greatly appreciated. Adell was blessed to have such supportive friends. Peggy Cox, beloved friend of our family, thank you for your constant support. We love you.
A celebration of Adell's life will be Sunday, March 3 at 1:30 p.m. at Plum Creek Golf Club at 750 Kohlers Crossing, Kyle.
