13 Questions with Rhea Ortamond
Rhea Ortamond may have a Fashion Merchandising degree from Texas State University, but her passion has always been ice cream. What started out as a hobby for parties and birthdays has turned into a full on career at Rhea’s Ice Cream located on the Square at 318 N. LBJ.
Rhea’s Ice Cream isn’t your typical Marble Slab or Baskin Robbins, though. Don’t go in there expecting an ice cream sunday or banana split. Ortamond is straight-up, to the point ice cream in either a cup or homemade waffle cone. But her flavors are far from run-of-the-mill. She personally makes the ice cream she serves and has flavors that range from avocado coconut and sea salt caramel to corn and Cheetos.
1. Where are you from?
I am from Rockwall and I went to school here and I’ve been here for the past 10 years now. I love this town and all of my friends have since moved to Austin. I just can’t seem to break away from it.
