Sometimes the smallest things can make the biggest difference.
That’s what Texas State sophomore Courtney Harris proved, walking with the bases loaded twice in the Saturday’s 8-3 win which allowed the Bobcats to claim last weekend’s Western Athletic Conference series against Louisiana Tech.
It was Texas State’s second conference series win, as the Bobcats (9-28) improved to 4-5 in WAC play.
Down 1-0 in the in the bottom of the third, Harris came to the plate with the bases loaded and one out. Falling behind in the count 1-2, Harris, who leads the team with three home runs (all grand slams), fought hard at the plate, fouling off numerous pitches before drawing a run-scoring walk.
It turned out to be a key play, as Katie Doerre followed with a RBI sac fly to give State the lead, as Anna Hernandez’ RBI single, followed by an error at shortstop, allowed the Bobcats to up their lead to 4-1.
