Dorothy ‘Dottie’ Payne Sims

Former Hays County Treasurer Dorothy “Dottie” Payne Sims passed away peacefully in her home with family on Sept. 20, 2016, at the age of 93. Born Dorothy Lucille Payne on Sept. 11, 1923 she is a third generation direct-descendent of Texas frontier leader General Edward Burleson – a family pedigree and heritage that some say gives her the birthright of Texas Royalty.  

Graduated from San Marcos High School in 1940 she attended Southwest Texas Teachers College where she played basketball, worked at Gary Air Force base as a night telephone operator and took up flight lessons.

Patricia Gayle (Pat)  Dismukes Murdock

Patricia Gayle (Pat) Dismukes Murdock, a longtime spokesperson for Texas State University and a tireless community volunteer, died of cancer on Sept. 22.

She was born Aug. 30, 1939 in Elgin and grew up in rural Lee County in a community called Knobbs Springs. After graduating from Lexington High School and later Wharton County Junior College, Murdock moved to San Marcos in 1959 to study journalism and English at what was then Southwest Texas State University. She earned a bachelor’s degree there in 1962 and a master’s degree in guidance counseling and English in 1969.

James S. Whitworth III

On Wednesday, Aug.31, 2016, a kind and loving man passed away after a long illness. James S. Whitworth, III, was born on his mother’s birthday in Austin Texas on Feb. 11, 1947, to James S. Whitworth, Jr. and Dimple Causey Whitworth. 

Jim is survived by his brother Robert, stepdaughter Brittney Young, nephews Michael Stephenson, Demian Whitworth and James Whitworth, niece Elizabeth Whitworth and dear friend and caretaker, Diane Whigham.

Kay D. Megee was tragically taken from her family on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016. 

She is survived by her mother, Sophie Brookbank, husband of 39 years, Gary, daughter Amber Seale and husband Shaun, daughter Ariel Weisser and husband Seth, and four grandchildren; Aiden, Arianna, Caedmon, and Brenin.
