Zara Spook lures are great for coastal fishing
Perhaps the ultimate fishing experience is seeing, hearing and feeling a big fish smash a topwater lure. Lures that run subsurface only involve one of the senses when a fish hits — feel or touch.
But three of the five senses are aroused with a top water strike.
Last week my neighbor, Tom Ray, wife Beth and I fished from kayaks on the Lighthouse Paddling Trails near Port Aransas.
The water is shallow and full of oyster shells and aquatic vegetation. A top water lure works well in that kind of turf. It keeps you out of the shell and grass.
