HS Softball: SMHS run rules Steele
Even though it took a little longer than one might think, the San Marcos High School softball team was able to score a run-rule win over Cibolo-Steele Tuesday night at Rattler Field.
San Marcos jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first and held a 10-0 lead after three innings, but Steele was able to counter with four runs in the top of the fifth to extend the game.
That mattered little, as SMHS scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the sixth for a 15-5 win.
San Marcos improved to 10-6-1 on the season, while Steele fell to 11-7-1.
Rene Contreras scored the first run for the Lady Rattlers in the bottom of the first with her RBI single to left field, as Victoria Vasquez laced a 3-RBI triple into left-center field to put SMHS up, 4-0. A walk and a sacrifice grounder off the bat of Mariah Delgado gave the Lady Rattlers a 6-0 lead.
Three walks and a wild pitch allowed the Lady Rattlers to score three more runs in the bottom of the second, as another pair of errors let SMHS up the lead to 10-0 lead going into the fourth.
Alyssa Del Los Santos hit a two-run triple in the bottom of the fifth, while Danielle Ricks’ two-run triple with one out in the bottom of the sixth gave the Lady Rattlers the game-ending run.
San Marcos opens District 25-5A play Friday night with a 7 p.m. home game against Smithson Valley.
