On senior night, three sophomores rose to the occasion for the San Marcos Academy girls’ team. Too bad it wasn’t enough for the Lady Bears, as they fell to Hyde Park by a score of 35-32. SMA was led by sophomore Que Semien, who scored 11 points. Sophomore Jessie Sainah added 10 points. The only senior to score in the game was Ify Onejeme, as she added six points in the losing effort. Despite trailing at halftime, the Lady Bears fought back. SMA eventually knotted the game at 26-all in the fourth quarter and took its first lead on a free-throw by Semien. Later in the fourth quarter, Sainah made a pair of shots to put the Lady Bears up 31-29; but the Lady Panthers battled back. Hyde Park and SMA traded leads twice more and in the end, it was the visitor who came out on top. With the loss, the Lady Bears fell to 1-5 in district play. SMA is 13-8 overall.
