HealthCheck to offer PAD screenings
For the second year in a row, Austin Heart is partnering with CTMC to provide a Peripherial Arterial Disease (PAD) screening to qualifying HealthCheck participants for a $30 fee.
The test compares blood pressures in a person’s arms to the blood pressure in their legs, which can indicate blockages associated with a higher risk for heart disease and stroke.
Those who wish to obtain the PAD screening must make an appointment prior to HealthCheck, Hays County’s oldest and largest health screening fair. This year’s event will be held Thursday, April 18, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center in San Marcos.
To pre-register or sign up for a PAD screening, call 753-3818.
Through HealthCheck, more than $500 worth of health screenings and services are available for $45.
The basic HealthCheck
screening panel includes:
• Complete Metabolic Panel (screening for glucose, renal and liver disorders)
• Lipid Panel (cholesterol with HDL/LDL breakdown and triglycerides)
• Complete Blood Cell Count (white blood cell, hemoglobin, hematocrit and platelets)
Several other tests are available at a discounted rate as well, including Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, or TSH ($15), Hemoglobin A1C ($15), Vitamin D ($30), Hepatitis C Virus, or HCV ($30) and a Carotid Artery Screening ($30).
“HealthCheck is such an important component of many area residents’ health care maintenance each year,” Clay DeStefano, administrative director of PR & Marketing, said. “We’re delighted to be able to keep offering the basic blood panel and growing the free screenings and clinical services available the day of the event.”
This year HealthCheck is again partnering with Texas State University’s CAMCO, the city of San Marcos Healthy City Task Force, the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce and the San Marcos Daily Record to provide more than 50 wellness, fitness and nutrition exhibitors.
Keep checking www.ctmc.org as the exhibitor list develops.
Preregistration for the event is under way now through April 5. To pre-register, call CTMC’s Institute for Healthy Living at 753-3818 or visit the Community Resource Center in the CTMC Main Lobby. Business hours are Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
For added convenience, several pre-event blood draws are already taking place at CTMC’s main campus and at additional locations throughout Hays and Caldwell counties.
All blood draws will take place from 7 to 10 a.m. and participants are required to fast for at least eight hours before having their blood drawn.
